1966 yılında, İstanbul’da o gün başladı yolculuk... O gün bu gün, adının hakkını vermeye çalışıyor… (Fikret: Düşünme, fikir, zihin, akıl; düşünceye dalma.) Önce Maçka Meslek Lisesi’nde Boya ve Dekorasyon Bölümü’nde meslek öğreneyim dedi, sonra asıl mesleğinin öğrenmek olması gerektiğini anladı. Görünen her şeyin kendine has bir macerası olduğu fikri başına dert oldu gitgide. Marmara Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi’nde Grafik Eğitimi alırken, her öğrendiğinde ne kadar bilmediğini kavradı. 1987 yılında mezun oldu. Ajanslarda kaşarlanmanın ardından mezuniyet sonrası Eskişehir’de bir hayalin peşinden koştu, yeni kurulan bir sanat ve tasarım okulunun neferi olacaktı… Hem de Anadolu’nun tam ortasında…
İsviçre’de, Art Center College of Design’da ilk Türk öğrenci olarak görsel iletişim eğitimi aldı. Anadolu Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi Grafik Bölümü’nde öğreterek öğrenmek çok heyecanlıydı. Amerika, Belçika, Almanya, Çin, Kıbrıs gibi farklı yerlerde bildiklerini paylaştı. O ilk günün üstünden 38 sene sonra, adının önüne “profesör” ibaresini koydular, hala alışmaya çalışıyor... Binlerce kişi “Görsel İletişim ve Grafik Tasarım” isimli kitabını alıp bildiklerini ve düşündüklerini paylaşma nezaketini gösterdi. Adını bildiği ve bilmediği pek çok hocası ve öğrencisi oldu. 17 yıldır yol arkadaşıyla birlikte, kendi Evren'leriyle, hayatlarında karşılarına çıkan en güzel projeyle uğraşıyorlar. 30 senedir eğitim verdiği Grafik Bölümü’nün girişinde şöyle yazıyor… “Kelimelerle konuşur kavramlarla anlaşırız, grafik tasarım bu kavramların biçimlere dönüşmüş halidir”…
The journey started in 1966 in İstanbul... Since that moment he tried to appreciate his name... (Fikret: Thought, idea, mind, wisdom.) First he tried to study at Paint and Paint Chemical Department at Maçka Vocational School in İstanbul, then he learned that his main job is “to learn”... More and more the idea of “every image has a special adventure”, started giving him a hard time. During his study at Marmara University Graphic Design Department he learned how much he needs to learn in the visual ocean. He graduated in 1987. After experiencing at advertising agencies he started to follow a dream in Eskişehir. He was going to be a foot soldier of a new art and design school... Right in the middle of Anatolia...
He studied at Art Center College of Design in Switzerland campus as the first Turkish student. It was so exciting to learn by teaching at Anadolu University. He shared what he knows in USA, Belgium, Germany, China, and Cyprus with many students. After 38 years from the first day, they put the title of Professor in front of his name, he is still trying to get use to it... Thousands of people were so kind to get his book called “Visual Communication and Graphic Design”. Whether he knows their name or not he had many students and masters. Since seventeen years he has been working with the most beautiful project called Evren (cosmos) with his seatmate. On the wall of the department that he is teaching of for 30 years, written as “We speak with words, communicate with concepts, graphic design is the transformation of these concepts into form”...
