Turkey's Dumlupinar University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Visual Communication Design, which has hosted many artistic activities in national and international areas realized the "Organ Transplant Foundation of Turkey" which is a stakeholder organization and the "Poster Competition for the 1 st International Symposium on Organ Donation" in 2015.
They have shown the importance of organ donation, which is the theme of successful designer and artists judges from all over the world, with effective studies they have prepared. By theme, the competition has being the first in the world. The catalog of works prepared after the competition has been distributed to thousands of foreign participants in scientific events held abroad within the scope of the International Transplant Network (ITN) project coordinated by the Organ Transplantation Foundation of Turkey. Moreover, the catalog has been sent to all art and design related institutions in Turkey. Apart from that, First 100 poster also had been shared in social media environments. Whether designs or competition ideas, It had been collected a lot of appreciation in the international field and community of transplantation. Also, It has once again shown the power of communication used in poster design at international level with the activities realized within the scope of this project, and the designs, exhibitions and works catalog. You can be viewed at detailed information, news about the competition and catalog of works http://www.posterland.org/.
Feedback from the competition , has shown that these and similar studies should be continued in order to "increase public awareness on the international scene today that organ donation is a global problem". From this point on, we will have been carrying out "2nd International Organ Donation Poster Competition" as the continuation of this work which we started with "Organ Transplant Foundation of Turkey" in 2015. The award ceremony of the competition in question will be held at the World Organ Donor Congress (http://www.isodp2017.org/), which will be held in Geneva on September 6-9, 2017, and the first 100 designs shall be exhibited on the congress foyer.
Organ donation is a person’s donating some or all of his/her organs while alive or deceased to save the life of others. As the best or only cure for about one million people suffering from chronic organ failure, it is known as one of the most important developments in medical science since 20th century. Every year only 10 % of these patients can have a transplant and about as many patients lose their lives due to unavailability of adequate number of organs.
While certain measures are being taken at the national level in various countries to eliminate organ shortage caused by limited number of donations, it is also definitely true that collaboration and projects for increasing public awareness at the international level are crucial to resolve the organ shortage crisis. Such a need for international collaboration was the motivating force behind our giving a start to the 1st International "Organ Donation" Poster Contest in 2015 which attracted great interest of the participant professionals and the outputs of the project left a long lasting mark on the international combat against organ shortage. We hope that the 2nd Contest that will be organized this year with the purpose of traditionalizing this action for public awareness and increasing the level of organ donation awareness worldwide will be a strong glimmer of hope for the patients awaiting a life saving transplant.
Every donation is a new life …
Contest is universal and everyone is open.
